Welcome to Halal Travel Guide! Please take a moment to read these terms before booking. By booking with us, you’re confirming your understanding and agreement with the policies below, which are designed to help ensure a smooth, enjoyable experience for everyone.

1. BOOKING & PAYMENT TERMS

DEPOSIT & PAYMENT SCHEDULE:

● A £100 deposit is needed to secure your booking. This deposit helps us hold your spot and is non-refundable and non-transferable.

● After securing your spot with the £100 deposit, we ask for a further £300 contribution towards the trip cost within 6 weeks. This, too, is non-refundable, but it helps confirm your commitment to joining us on the journey!

FOR INSTALLMENT PLANS:

● If you’d like to pay in instalments, we’re happy to offer up to 3 equal payments at no extra cost. Any payments made after the initial deposit are non-refundable to ensure that your place is set, and all instalments must be completed 8 weeks before the trip.

FINAL PAYMENT:

● For all trips, we kindly ask for the remaining balance no later than 8 weeks before departure.

● For last-minute bookings (within 2 months of departure), we’ll need full payment 6 weeks before departure or within two weeks after booking, whichever comes first.

TRAVEL INSURANCE:

● We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance at the time of booking to protect against any unexpected cancellations, disruptions, or health issues. Halal Travel Guide does not cover these risks, whether or not insurance is purchased. Opting for insurance provides peace of mind that you’re covered in case of last-minute changes to your plans.

2. CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

CANCELLATION TIMELINE & FEES:

● If you cancel more than 10 weeks before your trip, we’ll retain the deposit and any contributions made up to that point, to cover any non-recoverable costs we have incurred up to that point. We will refund you/not charge you the remaining balance of your trip. 

● Cancelling 4 weeks before departure means a 50% charge of the total trip cost, while cancelling within 3 weeks means a 100% charge.

● To keep things simple, we’re unable to offer refunds or credits after your trip has started, as we have already paid our local partners and vendors by this point.

TRANSFERRING YOUR SPOT:

● If something comes up and you can’t join us, you’re welcome to transfer your spot to someone else! Just note that arranging a replacement is up to you, and any payments made to date are non-refundable.

3. PRE-TRIP ESSENTIALS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

● For a smooth journey, please check the entry requirements of your destination, such as visas and health checks. While we’re here to support, it’s ultimately up to you to confirm any requirements. 

SCREENING & HEALTH:

● After booking, all guests go through a quick screening process. If anything prevents your participation, don’t worry—we’ll refund your deposit.

● To help us prepare for any special needs, please let us know about any health considerations when booking. This information is confidential and only helps us better serve you.

4. YOUR TRIP EXPERIENCE

FLEXIBLE ITINERARY:

● The itinerary we provide is a flexible guide. Adjustments may be made by the tour leader to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment, especially in the case of changing weather, closures, or health requirements. Any changes will be made with the group’s overall experience in mind.

ROOMING ARRANGEMENTS:

● Accommodation details will be shared in your Booking Voucher. For solo travellers booking a twin/shared room, we will do our best to pair you with another traveller of the same gender.

● Sharing a Twin room: Please note, if we are unable to find a same-gender roommate for you, a Single Room upgrade will be required, and this will incur an additional charge. By booking a twin/shared room as a solo traveller, you acknowledge that this upgrade and its cost may apply if a roommate is unavailable.

FLIGHTS:

● In the event of flight cancellations or delays, we’re here to help where we can, so please keep it touch! Arranging alternative flights will be your responsibility. If a delay means missing part of the trip, please note that we’re unable to offer refunds.

5. RESPOSIBILITY & SAFETY

● Joining our tours means you’re aware of the natural risks that come with adventure travel. These may include, but aren’t limited to, potential injuries, illnesses, or unexpected events.

● While we strive to create safe and enjoyable experiences, Halal Travel Guide can’t be held responsible for injuries, losses, or disruptions due to factors outside our control, such as natural disasters or unforeseen events.

MEDICAL RESPONSIBILITY:

● If you need medical attention during the trip, we’ll do our best to assist. However, any medical expenses are your responsibility, so travel insurance is a wise choice.

Salaam, and welcome to Almaty! Get ready to explore a city filled with history, culture, and natural beauty.

Your trip begins at Almaty International Airport, where your local guide will meet you and take you to your hotel. Early check-in is available from 7:00 AM, so you can settle in, enjoy breakfast, and rest after your journey.

We'll then gather for our welcome and orientation meeting before heading out for our first stop, Nomad Ethno Center, where you’ll step into the rich nomadic traditions of Kazakhstan. You'll have the opportunity to engage in hands-on activities such as archery, horseback riding, and learning how to make traditional bread. This immersive experience offers a glimpse into the everyday life of Kazakhstan’s nomadic ancestors. You will also have a special lunch inside a Nomad yurt!

Please note that activities are subject to availability.

After lunch, you'll get to see the art of Nomad hunting with Berkutchi (eagles hunters), which was recognized as symbols of resilience and true Kazakh manhood for people of Kazakhstan. Of course, today hunting eagle is a hobby that promotes conservation and sustainable use of wildlife.

You'll end the evening with a welcome dinner before going back to spend the night at a comfortable hotel in Almaty.

Begin your day with an exciting jeep adventure to Altyn Emel National Park, one of Kazakhstan’s natural treasures. Take in the unique beauty of the desert landscape and enjoy a trek through the colorful Aktau White Mountains, known for their striking layers of red, yellow, and white rock. Explore the incredible Singing Dunes, a natural phenomenon that produces a melodic sound when the wind blows. 

In the evening, savour a homemade dinner prepared with care and stay overnight at a cosy guesthouse in the quiet Basshy Village, offering a chance to relax and reflect on the day’s adventures.

Start your journey with a visit to Charyn National Park. En-route guests will have a stop at the historic town of Zharkent, where you’ll explore the unique Zharkent Mosque. This architectural gem blends Islamic and Chinese design elements and offers insights into Uyghur culture and history.

For lunch, you will go to a place owned by local family in Zharkent Town. 

During visit, you will learn about Uyghur gastronomic culture and will see demonstration of preparation of homemade noodles for lagman .

Continue to  and trek through the stunning Valley of Castles. Be amazed by the towering rock formations carved by nature over centuries, creating a breathtaking landscape that feels like stepping into another world.

In the evening, head to Saty Village, where you’ll stay overnight at a welcoming guesthouse. Enjoy a delicious traditional dinner prepared by a local family, giving you a taste of authentic Kazakh hospitality.

In the afternoon, you'll visit another lake, Kolsay Lakes, which represent a cascade of three lakes. The largest lake is accessible for all visitors.

In the evening, return to Almaty for an overnight stay, reflecting on the day’s peaceful and memorable experiences.

Begin your day with a visit to the UNESCO-listed Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yassawi, one of the most important Islamic sites in Kazakhstan. Explore this impressive structure and reflect on the deep spiritual legacy of the revered scholar and mystic.

Also, visit to Hilvet Underground Mosque, which plays an important role in cultural and religious identity of pilgrims who regularly come to Turkistan. 

Next, step back in time as you explore the Karavansaray complex, where you’ll be transported to the days of the Silk Road. The Karavansaray, a historic caravanserai, offers a fascinating look at the trade and cultural exchanges that took place along this ancient route. You can visit oriental bazaar, shops and restaurants, and flying theatre. Still in the same complex, after dinner, you will be able to enjoy the Cultural Evening Show.

Kyz – Jibek and Tolegen a well-known romantic poetry from the ancient epic was presented through water choreography and theatrical performance on boats.

Your final day in Turkestan!
Before we say goodbye to this historic city, you'll explore a few more fascinating spots.

After a free and relaxed morning, you'll visit the Kumchik Ata Underground Mosque, which dates back to the 19th–20th centuries and is part of the Azret Sultan State Historical and Cultural Reserve-Museum.

Next, step back in time at the Uly Dala Museum, where you'll gain deeper insight into Kazakhstan’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

You’ll also visit a local workshop and meet a talented craftsman who creates incredible wooden compositions from whole pieces of dry, aged wood. Each piece tells its own story and carries a philosophical meaning behind its design.

In the evening, we’ll return to Almaty via a domestic flight.

After a free morning, we'll head for our first stop for today, Almaty Central Mosque. Learn about the mosque’s unique design and its connection to the Tatar mosque that once stood here.

Next, head to the Green Bazaar, a lively market where you can try local foods like horse and camel milk and hear stories about Kazakhstan’s many cultures.

You'll also have the chance to explore more of the city and visit Arbat Walking Street to enjoy urban spots by visiting to market street, shopping center, outdoor gallery, local cafes, and park. Also visit Park of 28 Panfilov Guardsmen, The Ascension Cathedral and Museum of national musical instruments. 

For breathtaking panoramic views of Almaty and the surrounding mountains, we'll take you to Kok Tobe Hill to enjoy the sunset,

We'll end this evening by having a farewell dinner.

Yes. The days are fully structured, your HTG Voyage Captain handles all logistics, and the group dynamic means you’re never navigating an unfamiliar country alone. A large proportion of guests on this route travel solo, including many who are doing it for the first time.

Which cities and regions do we visit?

The trip runs across four main bases: Almaty (Days 1–2 and Day 6), Basshy Village (Day 3 overnight), Saty Village (Day 4 overnight), and Turkestan (Days 7–8). You return to Almaty for the farewell dinner before departing on Day 10. Travel between Almaty and Turkestan is by domestic flight, which HTG books on your behalf.

Are the domestic flights (Almaty to Turkestan) included?

The domestic return flights between Almaty and Turkestan are not included in the trip price, but HTG books these on your behalf. You will be advised of the cost and details when you book.

What accommodation should I expect?

The trip combines modern hotel comfort with authentic homestay experiences. In Almaty you’ll stay at the Grand Mildom or Mercure Hotel (4-star). In Turkestan, the Karavansaray Hotel (5-star). Nights in Basshy Village and Saty Village are in local guesthouses — basic in facilities but genuinely immersive, with home-cooked meals and direct contact with local families.

Come with an open heart for these nights; they tend to be among the most memorable of the trip.

Will there be any road trips?

Yes. The first half of the trip involves a number of road trips where the group travels in 4x4 vehicles to reach some of Kazakhstan's more remote landscapes. The roads can be rocky and uneven, with some drives lasting several hours.

For this reason, we do not recommend this trip for anyone with back problems or difficulty tolerating long drives on rough terrain, pregnant women, or families with young children.

If you are prone to travel or motion sickness, please come prepared with your usual medication and take it before each drive.

How much walking is involved each day?

Around four to six hours on your feet most days, across varied terrain — national parks, mountain paths, cobbled old towns, and dusty village tracks. Comfortable, well-worn walking shoes are essential. Bring trainers with proper support, not flat pumps or sandals.

Is there free time built in?

Yes. Most days include some free time, typically in the evenings, for rest, independent exploring, or browsing the local markets.

Can the itinerary change?

The programme is a flexible guide. Your group leader may adjust the order or timing of activities if weather, site closures, traffic, or other circumstances make it sensible to do so. In remote areas especially, some flexibility is part of the adventure. The aim is always to give you the best possible experience — not to stick rigidly to a printed schedule.

What currency does Kazakhstan use, and can I get it before I travel?

The local currency is the Kazakhstani Tenge (KZT). It is generally not available outside Kazakhstan, so bring cash in an international currency — USD, Euros, or GBP are all exchangeable. We’ll help direct you to reliable exchange points once you arrive.

Can I use my card?

Yes, in most hotels, restaurants, and larger shops in Almaty and Turkestan. In village areas and smaller stops, cash will be needed. Carry some Tenge with you whenever you’re out and away from the main cities.

Roughly how much spending money do I need?

Most guests budget £150–200 for the week to cover meals not included in the trip, souvenirs, coffees, and tips. Kazakhstan is very affordable — a sit-down meal in a local restaurant is typically under £10, and the markets are excellent value.

What plugs does Kazakhstan use?

Kazakhstan uses European two-pin sockets (Type C). UK travellers will need a UK-to-EU adaptor. Hotel rooms often have only one or two accessible sockets, so a small multi-socket extension lead is worth packing if you’re charging a phone, camera, and power bank.

Will I have phone signal and Wi-Fi?

Wi-Fi is available at all hotels. For data on the go, a local SIM is often the most affordable option and widely available in Almaty. An eSIM (such as Airalo, with a 15% discount using code HTG) also works well.

Important: some parts of the trip pass through remote areas where network coverage can be patchy or absent. Build that expectation into your plans for those days.

What’s the dress code for mosque and mausoleum visits?

You’ll need to cover your head, shoulders, arms, and legs. A large scarf or pashmina that tucks easily into your day bag is the simplest solution — bring one and you’re covered for every mosque and mausoleum on the trip. Women will also need headscarves for visits to these spaces.

How are the daily prayers organised?

Prayer is built into every day’s schedule. We follow the sunnah of combining and shortening prayers (jam’ and qasr) while travelling — usually timed with our lunch stops. Maghrib and Isha are typically prayed at the hotel. You’ll also visit several historic mosques along the way where prayer is naturally part of the visit.

Do I need to bring my own prayer mat?

A small travel mat can be useful when you need to pray in your hotel room or when you're out during the trip.

What’s the weather like in Kazakhstan?

Kazakhstan has a continental climate — significantly hotter than the UK in summer (Almaty can reach 30°C+). Check the conditions for your specific travel dates. Note that Turkestan, in the south, tends to be warmer and drier than Almaty.

What clothing should I bring?

Lightweight, breathable layers work best. Daytime can be warm, while evenings — especially in the village stays and at altitude — can be cool, so bring a light jacket or warm layer. Sun protection is important: hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. For mosque visits, make sure you have a headscarf or large scarf that’s easy to carry in your day bag.

Is there anything specific I should pack that’s easy to forget?

A few things our guests consistently wish they’d brought:

• A large pashmina or scarf for mosque and heritage site visits

• UK-to-EU plug adaptor and a small multi-socket extension lead

• Sunscreen, a sun hat, and sunglasses (the sun is stronger than in the UK, especially in open landscapes)

• Comfortable, broken-in walking shoes — not new ones

• A lightweight personal towel for the village homestay nights

• Any prescription medication with a copy of your prescription

• Travel prayer mat and prayer dress if you prefer to carry your own

• A small day bag for water, scarf, sunscreen, and your camera

Should I bring a camera or extra memory cards?

Absolutely. Kazakhstan offers extraordinary landscapes and heritage sites. Bring sufficient memory cards and spare batteries, as charging opportunities in remote areas may be limited.

Do I need a visa for Kazakhstan?

It depends on your passport. US, UK and EU passport holders: no visa required for stays up to 30 days.

Other passports: check with the Kazakhstan embassy in your country, or contact us and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Are tips expected?

Tips aren’t included in your trip price, but they’re standard in the region and a meaningful way to thank your driver and guides.

As a guideline, around £2 per day for the driver and £4 per day for the guide, given on their final day with the group. If you have a particularly good Jeep driver during the the road trip, you can also tip them at your discretion at the end of the 4x4 ride.
