This was my first experience with a group trip, so I’ll admit I was a little nervous going in—especially as an introvert who wasn’t sure how I’d feel traveling with strangers. But I had nothing to worry about; everyone on the trip was so friendly and lovely that it never felt overwhelming. It was really great to travel with other families with kids too as my son is an only child. Bosnia has been on my bucket list for years, and Halal Travel Guide turned out to be the perfect fit for what I wanted from the journey: a thoughtful balance of deep cultural immersion and active exploration. The accommodations and transportation were consistently comfortable, and having all the logistics handled meant I could stay present rather than stressed about planning. What stood out most to me was their commitment to supporting local businesses throughout the itinerary—it felt authentic and meaningful in a way that really enhanced the experience. Our local guides were exceptional, but Nedim was truly the heart and soul of the trip. Beyond the tour itself, I was deeply moved by the hospitality of the Bosnian people and their remarkable resilience. All in all, it was stress-free, deeply enriching, and genuinely a dream come true—I’d recommend them without hesitation. It's hard to decide but I think rafting on the Neretva river might have been the highlight!

I would like to express my deepest and most heartfelt appreciation to the entire Halal Travels Team for giving us what was far more than simply a seven-day journey through Bosnia. It was an unforgettable spiritual, emotional, educational and deeply human experience—one that touched the heart, challenged the mind, strengthened our sense of faith and solidarity, and left memories that I believe will remain with us for many years to come. What made this journey particularly special was the thoughtful way in which the programme had been designed. From our very first interactive meeting with Sami and Nedim, it became clear that this was not going to be an ordinary sightseeing tour. We were being invited not merely to visit Bosnia, but to understand its people, its history, its suffering, its faith and its extraordinary resilience. The powerful event, “From Bosnia to Gaza,” was particularly moving. Drawing parallels between the persecution and suffering experienced by Muslims in Bosnia and the continuing tragedy in Gaza gave the evening a profound contemporary relevance. It reminded us that history must not simply be remembered—it must awaken our conscience and strengthen our responsibility towards those who continue to suffer injustice today. The fundraising element transformed our emotions into an opportunity for meaningful action and solidarity. It was also a privilege to meet Imam Sanid Terzic, Laila Haddad and others, and to hear directly about their experiences and ongoing struggles. Such encounters brought history to life in a way that no textbook, documentary or conventional tour ever could. Behind the statistics and historical accounts were real people, real families, real suffering—and, above all, remarkable courage, dignity and faith. Throughout the seven days, the regular formal and informal talks, particularly Sami’s reflections during our coach journeys, added an invaluable dimension to the experience. These were not simply commentaries on the places we were visiting; they helped us make deeper spiritual, moral and emotional connections with Bosnia and its people. The journeys between destinations became opportunities for reflection—on faith, humanity, justice, suffering, resilience and our own responsibilities towards others. My special gratitude goes to Sami, Somaya and Nedim, who looked after us exceptionally well throughout the journey. Their warmth, patience, kindness and constant attention to the needs of the group created a genuine sense of being cared for. Much of what makes a journey memorable happens quietly behind the scenes, and the enormous effort required to organise, coordinate and support such a diverse group should not be underestimated. Their dedication was evident throughout. We were equally fortunate to have brilliant local guides. Jannah, particularly during our exploration of Sarajevo and the Tunnel of Hope, helped us appreciate both the suffering and extraordinary courage of the people of Sarajevo. Salma’s account of the events leading to the Srebrenica genocide was profoundly moving and difficult to forget. Standing in places where such unimaginable events occurred, while hearing the stories of those who endured them, transformed historical knowledge into something intensely personal and emotional. Another beautiful aspect of this journey was the group itself. We represented different generations—senior citizens, adults, young people and children—and came from diverse backgrounds and countries. Yet these differences seemed to disappear remarkably quickly. What united us was far greater: a shared faith, compassion, curiosity and desire to understand. Over those seven days, strangers became companions and companions became friends. There was a wonderful sense that we had become one large extended family, sharing meals, journeys, conversations, laughter, reflection and, at times, deep sadness together. I returned home from Bosnia physically, but emotionally a part of me remains there. My heart and mind continue to echo with the stories we heard, the places we visited and the people we encountered. I carry with me a profound sense of solidarity, admiration and respect for the great people of Bosnia—for their suffering and sacrifice, but even more importantly, for their extraordinary resilience, dignity, courage and determination to rebuild their lives while preserving their faith and humanity. Bosnia has reminded me that remembrance is not simply about looking backwards. It carries a responsibility: to remember, to bear witness, to oppose injustice wherever it occurs, and to ensure that the suffering of one people strengthens our compassion for the suffering of another. To Sami, Somaya, Nedim, the Halal Travels Team, our wonderful guides, speakers, hosts and everyone who contributed to making this journey possible, I offer my sincere and heartfelt gratitude. You did not simply organise a tour. You created an experience that educated our minds, touched our hearts, strengthened our faith, awakened our conscience and connected us deeply with the people and history of Bosnia. For that, I will remain profoundly grateful. May Allah reward you abundantly for your efforts, sincerity and service, bless the wonderful people of Bosnia, grant peace and justice to all those who continue to suffer oppression, and allow the lessons and emotions of this remarkable journey to remain alive within all of us. Bismillah, I traveled with my mother, daughter and friend, joining the Bosnia summer trip with Sami Hamdi and it was truly an experience that is very difficult to put words to. I can say this was the best, most impactful trip I have been on. The itinerary was very well put together, thoughtful choices for visits, meals, time to sit and reflect together, not very rushed. Of course I didn’t have enough time to spend in each place we visited due to the duration of the trip, but I am very much looking forward to going back inshaa Allah. Our beautiful group from all over the world felt like family by the end of the trip and it was difficult to part with them. Br Nedim, our guide- it was an honor meeting him and he truly made the whole experience feel welcoming, safe, enriching, and fun. The stories we heard were so valuable, the conversations on our long scenic bus rides kept us engaged and entertained (though we still caught some needed naps 😅). There was a very healing, ummatic aspect of it too. Making connections to our past present and future. I would highly recommend this trip to all my loved ones and anyone looking for truly meaningful travel.
