Welcome to Halal Travel Guide! Please take a moment to read these terms before booking. By booking with us, you’re confirming your understanding and agreement with the policies below, which are designed to help ensure a smooth, enjoyable experience for everyone.

1. BOOKING & PAYMENT TERMS

DEPOSIT & PAYMENT SCHEDULE:

● A £100 deposit is needed to secure your booking. This deposit helps us hold your spot and is non-refundable and non-transferable.

● After securing your spot with the £100 deposit, we ask for a further £300 contribution towards the trip cost within 6 weeks. This, too, is non-refundable, but it helps confirm your commitment to joining us on the journey!

FOR INSTALLMENT PLANS:

● If you’d like to pay in instalments, we’re happy to offer up to 3 equal payments at no extra cost. Any payments made after the initial deposit are non-refundable to ensure that your place is set, and all instalments must be completed 8 weeks before the trip.

FINAL PAYMENT:

● For all trips, we kindly ask for the remaining balance no later than 8 weeks before departure.

● For last-minute bookings (within 2 months of departure), we’ll need full payment 6 weeks before departure or within two weeks after booking, whichever comes first.

TRAVEL INSURANCE:

● We strongly recommend purchasing comprehensive travel insurance at the time of booking to protect against any unexpected cancellations, disruptions, or health issues. Halal Travel Guide does not cover these risks, whether or not insurance is purchased. Opting for insurance provides peace of mind that you’re covered in case of last-minute changes to your plans.

2. CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

CANCELLATION TIMELINE & FEES:

● If you cancel more than 10 weeks before your trip, we’ll retain the deposit and any contributions made up to that point, to cover any non-recoverable costs we have incurred up to that point. We will refund you/not charge you the remaining balance of your trip. 

● Cancelling 4 weeks before departure means a 50% charge of the total trip cost, while cancelling within 3 weeks means a 100% charge.

● To keep things simple, we’re unable to offer refunds or credits after your trip has started, as we have already paid our local partners and vendors by this point.

TRANSFERRING YOUR SPOT:

● If something comes up and you can’t join us, you’re welcome to transfer your spot to someone else! Just note that arranging a replacement is up to you, and any payments made to date are non-refundable.

3. PRE-TRIP ESSENTIALS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

● For a smooth journey, please check the entry requirements of your destination, such as visas and health checks. While we’re here to support, it’s ultimately up to you to confirm any requirements. 

SCREENING & HEALTH:

● After booking, all guests go through a quick screening process. If anything prevents your participation, don’t worry—we’ll refund your deposit.

● To help us prepare for any special needs, please let us know about any health considerations when booking. This information is confidential and only helps us better serve you.

4. YOUR TRIP EXPERIENCE

FLEXIBLE ITINERARY:

● The itinerary we provide is a flexible guide. Adjustments may be made by the tour leader to ensure everyone’s safety and enjoyment, especially in the case of changing weather, closures, or health requirements. Any changes will be made with the group’s overall experience in mind.

ROOMING ARRANGEMENTS:

● Accommodation details will be shared in your Booking Voucher. For solo travellers booking a twin/shared room, we will do our best to pair you with another traveller of the same gender.

● Sharing a Twin room: Please note, if we are unable to find a same-gender roommate for you, a Single Room upgrade will be required, and this will incur an additional charge. By booking a twin/shared room as a solo traveller, you acknowledge that this upgrade and its cost may apply if a roommate is unavailable.

FLIGHTS:

● In the event of flight cancellations or delays, we’re here to help where we can, so please keep it touch! Arranging alternative flights will be your responsibility. If a delay means missing part of the trip, please note that we’re unable to offer refunds.

5. RESPOSIBILITY & SAFETY

● Joining our tours means you’re aware of the natural risks that come with adventure travel. These may include, but aren’t limited to, potential injuries, illnesses, or unexpected events.

LIMITATION OF LIABILITY:

● While we strive to create safe and enjoyable experiences, Halal Travel Guide can’t be held responsible for injuries, losses, or disruptions due to factors outside our control, such as natural disasters or unforeseen events.

MEDICAL RESPONSIBILITY:

● If you need medical attention during the trip, we’ll do our best to assist. However, any medical expenses are your responsibility, so travel insurance is a wise choice.

WAIVER OF LIABILITY:

● By joining us, you’re agreeing to waive any claims against Halal Travel Guide, even in cases of possible negligence on our part. We strongly advise insurance to cover these and other risks.

Welcome to Uzbekistan!

Upon your arrival at the airport, you'll be warmly welcomed and escorted to your hotel. Take some time to freshen up and relax after your journey.

Please note that your guide will wait for you outside the airport exit. The airport is not large and is easy to navigate.

Today is free of activities so that you have time to rest, acclimatise and maybe even do some independent exploring. 

Tonight, you'll meet your tour leader and enjoy your warm welcome to Uzbekistan at our group dinner. 

Overnight in Tashkent.

Today is all about exploring Tashkent!

You'll start the day by sightseeing to the Hast Imam complex (Barak-Khan and Kaffal-Shashi mausoleums (16th century)), home to the esteemed Quran of Caliph Uthman, marking the starting point of your deeper connection with Uzbekistan's splendid Islamic legacy. We'll also take you to see the new part of the city.

We'll take you for lunch at the Plov Centre where you can see the process of making Uzbekistan's national dish. Then continue with a visit to Friday Mosque to pray dhuhr and asr, before continuing our trip to Chorsu Bazaar, Tashkent’s central market and possibly the best way to get introduced to Uzbek culture. You’ll have the chance to interact with the locals, see some Uzbekistan's fresh produces, and also to shop.

This evening you'll go to the airport to catch your flight to Urgench, where you will spend your first night in the magical city of Khiva.

Please note that you should have your bags packed and ready for check out in the morning.

It's here in the Khorezm region where some of the most influential Muslim scholars of all time once lived.

Today, you'll learn more about their stories and legacy that continues to be felt even today. Al Biruni, for example, made some of the first calculations of the Earth, while Al Khwarizmi came up with the algorithm. 

You'll enjoy exploring Khiva's architecture, famous for its turquoise tiles and sandy walls. You'll have a walking tour of the oldest part of the city where you can see Kunya-Ark fortress, including Kurinish Khana (17th century); Mohammed-Amin-Khan Madrassah (19th century), Islam Khodja Minaret; Uch Avlioli (three saints) Mausoleum, Jami Mosque (18th century), and Kutluq-Murad Inaq Madrassah (19th century).

Have a free morning to explore Khiva by yourself before checking out of your hotel to travel to the heart of Islam in Uzbekistan; Bukhara. We'll take a flight to Bukhara in the afternoon.

It's here where Imam al Bukhari was born in the 9th Century AD, and who today is revered as the foremost scholar sharing the life of the Prophet SAW. This UNESCO-protected oasis was also the once-prized jewel of Genghis Khan's empire, who when he saw the towering Po i Kalyan minaret, didn't dare to tear it down despite the rest of his destruction in the region. 

For a taste of local life, meander through the bustling bazaars; seek out intricate suzanis (embroidered textiles), handcrafted ceramics, and legendary Bukharan carpets. Don't miss trading domes like Toki Zargaron, housing treasures once bartered along the Silk Road. Bukhara is the place to buy high-quality, unique gifts and souvenirs, and don't be afraid to barter!

Overnight in Bukhara.

After a hearty breakfast, our local guide will walk you through the ancient streets of Bukhara, where you’ll visit some of the most important historical sites in the region’s Islamic history, including the role of Bahauddin Naqshabandi in the spread of Islam in Central Asia. Also, make a visit to Ismael Samani Mausoleum (9-10th centuries), Chor-Minor, Chashma-Ayub Mausoleums (14th century) and Registan Ensemble.

To complete your experience, we'll take you to see the process of cooking plov with the locals. 

In the afternoon, you'll have some free time. Explore the city's rich tapestry at your own pace, maybe find a nice spot to relax, or continue sightseeing — your call. You can use this time walk around the bazaar, taking some nice pictures as the sun sets. If you're interested in art, you can also watch the Uzbek traditional folk dance.

You'll stay overnight in Bukhara, giving you plenty of time to enjoy what the evening has to offer.

This morning, you'll head to the next city, Samarkand.

But before that, you're headed to Gijduvon to visit the significant madrasa of Sheikh Abdul Khaliq Gijduvoni, an important figure in Islamic history. This place isn't just educational; it's a chance to connect with centuries-old traditions.

The adventure continues with a hands-on experience at a local potter's workshop. Here, you'll see skilled artisans at work and even decorate your own piece of pottery. It's not every day you get to try your hand at an ancient art form!

By late afternoon, you'll arrive in Samarkand. Explore the city's rich tapestry at your own pace, maybe find a nice spot to relax, or continue sightseeing — your call.

You can go to the Registan Square as they have a light show at 21:00. Come early to take your best spot to see the whole square lit up with colourful lights.

Overnight in Samarkand.

After breakfast, you'll visit the complex of Imam al Maturidi, who is a famous Islamic theologian, a connoisseur of Fiqh and Mufassir.

You'll then explore the Shah-i-Zinda. It's here that the cousin of the Prophet SAW is believed to be buried, after travelling to Central Asia to spread the message. Get your camera ready because you're in for an incredible day exploring some of the most spectacular Islamic architecture in the world. We'll make a stop at Hazrati Hizr mosque and pray dhuhr there, before going for lunch. Then you'll also get to see Bibi Khanom Mosque.

Overnight in Samarkand.

Today, you'll explore more of Samarkand, including a visit to Imam Al Bukhari Mausoleum. While it is now under construction, you will have the chance to get close to the location and learn more about his legacy.

We'll also visit the nearby bustling Siyob Bazaar. You can use your free time in this bazaar for some shopping galore and to sample local fruits, nuts, and pastries, like the famous Samarkandi halva. It's a great place to get some souvenirs to take home.

After a day of exploration, you can spend another restful evening reflecting on the day's discoveries, or head out to enjoy the atmosphere at Registan Square and nearby cafes. 

Overnight in Samarkand.

This morning is yours to design as you please, as you have free time before having to check-out from the hotel.

We'll visit the Gur-Emir Mausoleum. You'll learn more about the history through our incredible tour guide. We'll then make a move to Registan Square, where you can set your gaze upon the grandeur of three imposing madrasahs: Ulugh Beg, Sher-Dor, and Tilya-Kori. And it is in one of these madrasas that you will have an incredible Islamic calligraphy experience. 

This afternoon, you'll return to Tashkent in style on a bullet train.

Overnight in Tashkent. 

After an early breakfast, we’ll take you to Tashkent airport for your return flight home. Should you wish to extend your stay and need assistance with accommodation, let us know.

What makes this trip different from a standard tour of Uzbekistan?

The itinerary is built around the Islamic heritage of Central Asia — not as an add-on, but as the whole point. Prayer is built into every day. The guides are chosen for their knowledge of Islamic history.

Experiences like walking through the old city of Khiva, the calligraphy session in the Ulug-Beg Madrasa, the visit to Imam al-Maturidi’s complex, and the Imam al-Bukhari Mausoleum are central to the programme, not optional extras. The group is made up of like-minded Muslim travellers, which shapes the whole dynamic of the trip.

Who tends to come on this trip?

A genuine mix. Solo travellers, families, friends travelling together. First-time solo travellers are well-represented. What the group has in common is an interest in Islamic history and a preference for travelling in a way that doesn’t compromise on faith or modesty.

Is this a good first solo trip?

Yes. The days are structured, your HTG group leader handles all logistics, and the group dynamic means you’re never navigating an unfamiliar country alone. A large number of our guests on this route travel solo, and many are doing it for the first time.

Which cities do we visit and in what order?

The route runs Tashkent → Khiva → Bukhara → Gijduvon → Samarkand → Tashkent.

You arrive and depart from Tashkent. Travel between Tashkent and Khiva, and between Khiva and Bukhara, is by plane and between Samarkand and Tashkent, is by bullet train. The bus takes the group between Bukhara and Samarkand via Gijduvon.

How much walking is involved each day?

Around four to six hours on your feet most days. Uzbekistan’s old cities — Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand in particular — involve a lot of ground covered on foot, including cobbled streets and uneven surfaces. Comfortable, well-worn walking shoes are essential. Bring trainers rather than flat pumps or flip flops.

Is there any free time built in?

Yes. Most days include some free time, typically in the afternoon or evening — for rest, browsing the bazaars, or independent exploring.

Can the itinerary change?

The programme is a flexible guide. Your group leader may adjust the order or timing of visits if weather, site closures, traffic, or other circumstances make it sensible to do so. The aim is always to give you the best possible experience of each destination — not to stick rigidly to a printed schedule.

What's the dress code for mosque visits?

You'll need to cover your head, shoulders, arms and legs. A pashmina or large scarf you can throw over an outfit and tuck in your day bag is the easiest setup -  bring one and you're covered for every mosque on the trip.

How are the daily prayers organised?

We follow the sunnah of combining and shortening prayers (jam' and qasr) while travelling — usually timed with our lunch stops. Maghrib and Isha are typically prayed at the hotel. You'll also visit several historic mosques along the way where prayer is naturally part of the visit.

Do I need to bring my own prayer mat?

A small travel mat can be useful when you need to pray in your hotel room or when you're out during the trip.

What currency does Uzbekistan use, and can I get it before I travel?

The local currency is the Uzbekistani Som (UZS). It’s generally not available outside Uzbekistan, so bring cash in an international currency — USD, Euros, or GBP are all exchangeable in the large cities. We’ll take you to reliable exchange spots once you’re on the ground.

Can I use my card?

Uzbekistan is still largely a cash-based economy. While card acceptance is growing in larger hotels and some restaurants, you’ll need cash for markets, smaller cafés, and a lot of day-to-day spending. Carry enough Som for the day whenever you’re out.

Roughly how much spending money do I need?

Most guests budget €150-200 for the week to cover dinners (not included), souvenirs, coffees and tips. Uzbekistan is genuinely affordable — a sit-down meal in a local restaurant is typically £4–10 a head, and a coffee is well under £2.

What plugs does Uzbekistan use?

Uzbekistan uses European two-pin sockets (Type C), the same standard as EU countries. UK travellers will need a UK-to-EU adaptor. Hotel rooms often have only one or two accessible sockets, so a small multi-socket plug is worth packing if you're charging a phone, camera and power bank.

Is Wi-Fi reliable?

Yes, in all the hotels and most cafés. For data on the go, the main FAQ covers the Airalo eSIM option. For Uzbekistan specifically, a local SIM — Beeline or Ucell — is often the most affordable option and widely available.

What’s the weather like?

Significantly warmer than the UK for most of the year, with long sunny days in summer when temperatures can reach 35–40°C. Spring and autumn are cooler and more comfortable for walking. Check the specific conditions for your travel dates and pack accordingly, since you’ll be on your feet a lot.

Do I need waterproofs?

For spring and autumn departures, yes, a light waterproof jacket or compact umbrella, just in case.

What clothing should I bring?

Uzbekistan can be significantly hotter than the UK — pack lightweight, breathable layers, and bring sun protection (hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm). For mosques and mausoleums, make sure you have a headscarf or large scarf that’s easy to carry during the day. Broken-in walking shoes are essential — trainers rather than flat shoes without support.

Is there anything specific I should pack that's easy to forget?

A few things worth flagging: a large scarf for mosque visits; a plug adaptor and small multi-socket extension; sunscreen and a hat (the sun is stronger than it is in the UK); a daypack or light backpack for daily excursions; and any personal medication you take regularly, with extra supply and a copy of the prescription.

Do I need a visa for Uzbekistan?

It depends on your passport. US, UK and EU passport holders: no visa required for stays up to 30 days.

Other passports: check with the Uzbekistan embassy in your country, or contact us and we’ll point you in the right direction.

Are tips expected?

Tips aren't included in your trip price, but they're standard in the region and a meaningful way to thank your driver and guides. As a guideline, around £2/$4 per day for the driver and £4/$8 per day for the local guide, given on their final day with the group.
